Fisher Building Ornaments Chicago
thingiverse
In October, I am Artist in Residence at Chicago's Harold Washington Library's Innovation Lab, a popular addition to their programming and facilities. During my residency, I will work on my second 3D printed book, creating 3D scans of early ornaments by renowned architect Louis Sullivan with City of Chicago cultural historian Tim Samuelson. Additionally, I will lead a series of four workshops teaching participants how to use 123D Catch, Meshmixer, and Netfabb to produce 3D printable scans from textures, objects, and sculptures using digital cameras. We recently demonstrated 123D Catch usage and plan to conduct a walking tour next week to scan South Loop's architectural detailing. I captured some ornaments on the Fisher Building with my phone, showcasing a proof of concept. After scanning, I processed the images in 123D Catch, Meshmixer, and Netfabb before printing them with PLA on Rep1 using Makerware 2.3, opting for an upright print due to preferred layering appearance.
