Fish Tank Handle for 3mm Glass

Because they are often lost or broken, I have designed this handle for fish tanks or terrariums with 3mm glass tops on hinges. The days of using an office binder clip until it rusts away are gone! Additionally, this model is designed for individuals with low grip-strength or limited manual dexterity (especially via attachments). Features: • Loop for grip.• Sturdy connection between clip and handle.• Narrow front area to allow aquarium lid to close.• Feet at the base allow for drying.All-Ages & Accessibility Notes:This handle is designed for individuals with low grip-strength or manual dexterity. The loop at the top is sturdy enough to have a looped cord or be tied to another item. (I find that a foam-rubber sunglasses float works well.) Little kids who want to help feed the fish can also find either of these easier to hold than the solo handle presented here.Update: Before posting, I revised this model to be a bit stronger where the handle connects to the glass clip.Printing Notes:• Any rigid plastic (PLA, ABS, PETG, et cetera).• No supports needed.• Brim recommended. • Infill ≥ 15%.• Some warping is okay. Thicknesses matters to allow the lid to close and to keep the handle on, but specific sections of the print can be bent and it will still function just fine. If the clip spreads beyond 3mm, simply add more aquarium glue during installation. • For different glass thicknesses, the model can be scaled quite a bit without impacting use.Installation: • First, slide the clip onto the glass to test the fit. It should be relatively tight.• Apply a small amount of aquarium glue to the inside area of the clip. Use a toothpick to apply the glue to the entire inside surface—this will better secure the handle. Remember to wipe away the excess glue before it cures.• For large glass lids, I recommend printing more than one and connecting them with a cord. This limits the mechanical stress on any given clip.• For aquariums with a plain glass plate as their top, I suggest either 1) using two of these handles on opposite sides and using both at the same time or 2) adding a hinge or back-stop to the setup. These are to prevent the plate falling off.Today I Learned:A fancy terrarium with only plants is also called a Wardian case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardian_case
