fischertechnik screw snail with gear
thingiverse
I have designed an advanced Fischertechnik screw from a single piece of material. At 0.1 mm resolution, the print quality matches the original model perfectly. However, at 0.2mm resolution, the result is slightly heavier due to minimal layer adhesion. To prevent rafting and enable printing without support structures, I have added an innovative 20-gear mechanism. The interior features a sturdy 4mm Fischertechnik shaft, which ensures the screw's stability. Be cautious when removing the print bed, as the transition between the gear wheel and the screw is a critical point prone to breakage. With this design, I was able to successfully print the snail up to 30cm in length. However, prints exceeding 25cm may exhibit minor nozzle movement-related imperfections. To achieve optimal results, it's recommended to use a printer with a rigid and stable print bed. My printed snail was created using a 30 mm grid size, from which I carefully removed 3.5mm to accommodate a spacer ring on the gear side. This adjustment allows for smooth operation of the mechanism. Grid sizes supported by this design include: 120, 160, 200, 240, and 300. I welcome feedback and encourage users to submit any suggestions for improvement.
