First use of Red Crescent as an emblem

First use of Red Crescent as an emblem

sketchfab

During the Russo-Turkish conflict of 1887-1888, the Ottoman Empire opted for the red crescent instead of the red cross as its symbol. This decision was made because they thought the cross might offend Muslim soldiers, even though it was never meant to be a Christian emblem and still isn't today. The red crescent earned formal recognition in 1929.
