This gauge is designed to check if an envelope fits within a 1/4 inch thick slot. The US Post Office requires first class mail to be under 1/4 inch thick. I grew tired of trying to measure envelope thickness and created this gauge for added durability compared to card stock. If your letter slips through, it can still ship first class.
