First attempt at a Lithograph from 2d image
thingiverse
I wanted to test if I could create a 3D object from a Photoshop JPG. I chose Robert E Lee and experimented with Meshmixer and Meshlab for simplification. My goal is to print this in a translucent material so it can be backlit for a lamp. The next step would be to shape the object into a curved lamp shade or lit portrait. The process isn't overly complicated, but the objects are unprintable unless you set a minimum object size in Meshmixer. There are two versions available - one with a lot more detail and one with a minimum size of 0.1 mm. Edit: I have since learned that there are much easier ways to achieve this result.
