Fireplace Mantel
thingiverse
This design was meant to look nice, be functional, and be simple to execute. I designed this to be made out of standard sized lumber, be a minimalist look that could go anywhere, and to go with any bracket design you want to fit the look to your home (I used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099JH9Y27/ ). And because my TV is going to be wall mounted above it, I also designed in a hidden compartment for a surge protector in the center, with the cord running out the side to be far less visible. The main idea is two 1x8 boards (or whatever width you prefer) at the length you desire (I chose about 6ft), that sandwich some internal structure for rigidity, and are wrapped in 1x4 boards for a clean look from the front. There is a center-top cutout and coverplate (that has about a 1/2in gap built in common to the wall side) to allow access for power/signal cords into the hidden area with a surge protector mounted inside. There are also more cutouts to allow the surge protector cord (and more if needed) to pass out the side (my house required the left, but either side would work) I assembled the entire thing using brad nails and wood glue, cured it, then went around and used wood filler on every nail hole or any gaps, sanded the entire thing, stained it (espresso color I think), and finally sealed it using polyurethane (semi-gloss). I have attached a blueprint of the design I created, but the dimensions/features can obviously be modified very easily to fit your needs. The finish color/sealer is also personal preference, and the hidden cord door is optional, and not necessary to the structure of the mantel. All of my designs are unpaid passion projects that I choose to share, and I provide mesh models for free, but if you'd like to support me and my work, donations are greatly appreciated.
