FireFly mini
thingiverse
I've been using my FireFly for over a year now. I print a lot of different filament types and change filament often, which is why I wanted an extruder that made changing filament easy, printed all filaments, and didn't plug up or skip. This extruder loads filament with just a twist of a big easy knob (check out the video). It prints any filament that I have tried, including flexible ones. As it prints, it cleans itself with a reverse action rotating brush that eliminates clogs and skips. It's lightweight with a Nema 14 stepper and powerful with its drive gears. This is an advanced project with many parts, requiring a well-calibrated printer to produce some of the parts. If the worm gears don't turn smoothly for you, ask a friend to print them; they don't take much filament. The "foot" of the extruder is interchangeable with a standard Wade's extruder, so you can probably drop it right onto your X-carriage. I have both 1.75 and 3mm models designed for hexagon and E3D type hot ends. If you'd like to test it with a different hot end connection, just message me; I'd be happy to help. The FireFly extruder is: • Printable • Handles a wide variety of filament (including flexible ones) with ease • Has a very short feed to hotend path • Uses worm drive for powerful feed in a very small space • Is super lightweight and agile • Automatically cleans itself • Uses a smaller and lighter weight stepper motor • Makes loading filament easy • The idler can easily be fully opened Check out the videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4EEMcYvLJg, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLjeGuR-7DM, https://youtu.be/khTIw_aLQxE
