Garfield Lynns, a master special effects creator, made a drastic career shift when he turned to a life of crime. His initial goal was to profit from stealing from Gotham's wealthy elite. However, his first heist ended abruptly when the Caped Crusader intervened. In a clever twist, Lynns managed to escape with the help of a firefly that provided him with an unexpected distraction. Undeterred by his narrow escape, Lynns decided to adopt a costumed identity - Firefly - and continued his string of crimes. It wasn't until Batman finally apprehended him after several attempts that Lynns' reign as the Firefly came to an end.
