The Phoenix bird is often seen as a symbol of rebirth in Western mythology, whereas in Russian mythology it's replaced by the Firebird which reappears again and again from its own ashes. A fairy tale hero typically sets his heart on catching this legendary bird due to the numerous challenges he must face.
