Fire Hydrant

A replica of a vibrant, twin-outlet fire hydrant frequently spotted in Singapore has been crafted from 160 images processed with Agisoft Photoscan. Fire hydrants are captivating structures that seldom come into action. To prevent public misuse, fire hydrants demand specialized equipment (a large wrench with a pentagonal socket) to be opened. As Singaporeans, there may be a widespread misconception that all fire hydrants are painted red. However, the cap and body of a fire hydrant are color-coded based on their available water flow, and not solely for visual appeal. The hue of the cap can range from blue, green, orange to red, while the main body can vary from white, yellow, red to violet. Fire hydrants also convey the history of fires in Singapore: from the massive fire at Bukit Ho Swee in 1961 (biggest fire in Singapore's history) that razed the squatter along the hillside of Kampong Tiong Bahru, to the recent fire at Marina Bay Suites Condominium in 2014 that claimed the lives of two security guards.
