Fire Axe Combo Tool

A firefighter's essential tools include the pick-head fire axe, halligan pry tool, and hydrant wrench. The halligan tool is a versatile combination of pick, adz, and prying claw or fork, often used with a flat-head axe for forcible entry on the fireground. The axe serves as a sledgehammer to pound the halligan's adz or claw into objects like door frames or car doors. The hydrant wrench is unique in its pentagonal shape, designed specifically to open fire hydrant valves and prevent tampering or water theft. Without water, fighting a fire is impossible; thus, the hydrant wrench plays a crucial role. My Extreme Redesign Challenge project aimed to consolidate these tools into one. I combined the pick-head axe, halligan pry tool, and hydrant wrench functions by adding an adz to the side of the axe and cutting a pentagonal slot in the head for the wrench. The opposite side of the adz serves as a striking surface. Additionally, it features a threaded knob for adjusting the wrench size. This versatile tool can be mounted on any common wood or nylon axe handle, serving as an axe, halligan pry tool, and hydrant wrench. In emergency situations, firefighters can rely on this single tool without worrying about leaving essential tools behind.
