This expansion of the game Fire and Sails is based on a kind of anonymous war, far from the names of the great naval battles, but which was equally important. It is about the fight against piracy and the Barbary corsairs on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. And although it may not seem like it, it was a cruel and bloody war. There was a big difference between fighting against the English, French, or any other European nationality. In this war, the pirates and corsairs had no rules... they did not make prisoners of war; they turned prisoners into enslaved people, prisoners who could be sold or used for ransom. Also, if they considered it reasonable, they could kill all or part of the prisoners.   The Barbary corsairs departed from Algiers, Tunis, and Morocco, intending to seize any merchant ship they spotted to take the vessel and the merchandise and turn its crew into enslaved people. If they did not spot any interesting vessel, they would scour the coast in search of a small fishing village to raid. The Algerian pirates would raid the small, defenseless villages along the Mediterranean coast with the intention of capturing slaves and plundering anything of value in their path. The Berbers were always swarming along the Spanish coast, so combat was assured whenever a patrol squad went out. The best way to fight them was with a squadron of several xebecs (the same type of ship that the Berbers used to use) and subdued them with cannon and musket fire because they did not usually surrender.
