Human: PLA filament is one of the two most widely used desktop 3D printing materials (alongside ABS filament). It's the 'default' recommended material for many desktop 3D printers, and with good reason - PLA is versatile in a broad range of printing applications and can be produced in various colors. However, what do you need to do to finish a PLA print to make it truly exceptional? To help showcase the benefits and drawbacks of each technique, we've designed a "Finishing Torture Test." This simple model features sharp corners on the outside of the cube and the inside of the hole, along chamfers, and the edges of the pyramid. It also has round faces, fillets, and a cylinder. We included all these features in the model as they are common examples found in various models you can print, and to demonstrate how some features can be lost or diminished. Print Settings Notes: Given that this is a torture test designed to challenge your skills in finishing prints, not to push your printer to its limits, configure the print settings to what you normally use when printing something. Try printing at 0.1mm, 0.2mm, and 0.3mm resolutions, and observe how increased print time means less time spent actually finishing. Materials and Instructions The materials we used to finish these prints consisted of: MatterHackers PRO Series Silver PLA (https://www.matterhackers.com/store/3d-printer-filament/pro-series-silver-pla-filament-1.75mm) Filler Primer Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty 120 grit sandpaper 200 grit sandpaper 400 grit sandpaper Water Paper towels Spray Paint Gloves Personal Protective Equipment
