Fingerboard Jersey Barrier Conrete Mold
thingiverse
DIY Jersey Barrier Concrete Mold for Fingerboarders! The print is straightforward, just four parts coming together to form the mold. You may want to opt for a higher resolution for an even smoother surface since thicker layers will be more noticeable on the obstacle. Depending on how you print the pieces, you might not need supports at all. Consider printing with a higher density if you plan to use the mold multiple times, as the concrete can stick very hard to it. Post-processing isn't necessary, but it significantly impacts the outcome of the barrier. I didn't do it myself this time, but I'll definitely sand the surface and edges of the mold next time to ensure the four single pieces fit together seamlessly. In the pictures of the barrier, you can see the seam where the individual pieces touched each other. If your print has a small bulge like mine did, you may want to sand it down. You could also tape the slits between the mold to prevent concrete from flowing out while it's setting. While the seams on the side are more of an aesthetic issue, they can impair slide and grindability on top. For less work, sticking a thin strip of cardboard into the mold with doublesided tape will give you a flat top surface. It's better to prepare a good mold than post-process the concrete itself since it's such a strong material that it's hard to sand down by hand. There are plenty of tutorials on working with concrete. Here are a few tips: use a smaller grain size for a flat surface, and apply lots of grease to prevent the concrete from sticking to the mold. To hold the mold pieces together, I recommend using battens screwed onto a board as shown in the pictures. This worked great for me, but you might also be able to get away with just taping the pieces together. Afterwards, simply pull the mold off the board and remove your prints from the concrete. I also coated my barrier with a spray lacquer, but you can paint it or do whatever looks best to you. Now all that's left is getting some wax ready and shredding a session on the DIY Jersey Barrier!
