Filter Queen Wheel
thingiverse
My trusty Filter Queen Vacuum is a relic from several decades past. I purchased it used in 2005 and even then, it showed remarkably little wear and tear. However, dog hair became lodged in the wheel bearings on the riveted-in-place caster wheels, causing one of them to crumble since the rubber had long since given out. This wasn't a flawless print job, being an early attempt I made, but it fit perfectly and worked flawlessly, so I stopped tweaking it. After clearing away the dog hair and the stuck-on rubber bits from the shaft collar, I was able to attach two of these wheels to my vacuum and am still using it with ease 2 years later! The wheels rotate smoothly and the gap that formed in the corners during the build doesn't affect their rotation at all. You won't even notice the slight imperfection when you roll it along. The screws used are #6 pan head sheet metal, approximately 1" long. To print this design, simply create two halves with the axis pointing vertically or horizontally and four pins with a vertical axis. The pins serve as alignment guides for the wheel halves. Next, rotate the halves so that two screws go into one side while the other two screws are inserted on the opposite side of the other half. This design should not require any drafts or supports. I narrowly avoided losing the print due to running out of filament but was able to clip it off and substitute another color without interruption, which is why one wheel has a unique blue and white finish.
