Filter & Oiler For Bowden Extruder
thingiverse
Ever since I installed the original E3D v6 hot end with a bowden setup, my extruder has been plagued by terrible skipping. Researching the issue led me to read numerous online reports of people using oil on their filament to reduce stickiness, especially when printing PLA due to its inherently sticky property. Various oiler designs can be found on Thingiverse, but none appealed to me, so I designed my own solution. Key features include: * Designed for use with my customized bowden extruder mount featuring a 1/8 inch BSPT thread; it should also fit the original customizable bowden extruder mount for ANET A8 and other printers - simply mirror the design in your slicer if necessary. * Add a drop or two of oil daily, depending on your extruder's performance. I found sunflower frying oil to be particularly effective due to its higher smoking point. * Serves as a filter, useful for removing dust from filament when printing in dusty environments. * The design provides sufficient spacing between the extruder and oiling chamber, allowing you to feel with your fingers whether the filament is sufficiently oily. * A hopper-like design on top minimizes spillage when adding oil. * Easy access to the oiling sponge is provided via a removable cover located on the side. * Filament can be removed and inserted sideways through the same opening. For mounting, use an M3x10 screw. The side cover snaps into place, designed with my printer's tolerances in mind but likely compatible with other printers as well. If you encounter any issues, please let me know. I have also included Blender files for those who wish to edit the design further.
