This mounting ring is for attaching a filter to a Yukon Spartan Gen 1 Night vision device without threading; it fits into the objective snugly and can be adjusted if necessary. The outer ring requires gluing with infrared transparent or dark, but transparent plastic. Camera filters are not beneficial due to their poor compatibility and subpar optical quality. The inner ring doesn't affect focusing and is slightly larger than the objective rubber diameter. This device offers three uses: utilize the Gen 1 tube during daylight with a dark filter to mimic Gen 3 features at a lower cost, using ambient light instead of an infrared illuminator; mount an infrared filter to reduce glare and visual distractions from artificial lights; or use it with a cap on the infrared illuminator during daylight for airsoft or paintball without violating laws or risking expensive equipment. Night vision devices don't count as eye protection, so beware of potential injuries from softairs and paintballs. The filter film resides between the two rings; if not printed onto the second ring, it may get scratched easily. Suitable filter materials include window tinting film, acrylic glass, or old photographic film.
