Filter Media Tray
thingiverse
I required several media trays for the lid filter, situated in the rear of the lid, and was dissatisfied with the 4-foot coarse sponge that would require a fight to remove, spilling water everywhere. I wanted the trays to be multipurpose, allowing them to be separated and cleaned as individual units without having to turn off the power head. This would enable the safe use of multiple medias, such as fine and coarse sponges, filter bio balls, ceramic tubes, and activated carbon, among others. The trays are designed to be loose in position, allowing water to flow past them if they become clogged. I also included a fail-safe tray exit end to ensure that even if all trays became clogged, the water could still flow through without overflowing, thereby preventing damage to the carpets and preserving the 300 liters of water in the tank. Measurements for the fail-safe tray are: 45 mm high x 205 mm long x 80 mm wide. Measurements for the normal tray are: 45 mm high x 200 mm long x 80 mm wide. These trays are made from PLA+, a material that is tank safe, food safe, and non-toxic. I researched various manufacturers to ensure its properties meet my requirements. If a better material becomes available, I will update accordingly. The picture shows the second tray as it was not possible to capture the fail-safe tray at the time of publication. Anyone requiring different lengths can contact me directly. Due to PLA+'s ability to cross gaps without supports, no additional supports were necessary during printing. I plan to write an article about this project on my blog, 3D Print Opinions (https://www.3dprintopinions.com).
