Filter Floss Cup (Red Sea)

Filter Floss Cup (Red Sea)

thingiverse

This is my first 3D model, so bear with me! :) I created a cup insert to replace the mesh filter sock in a Red Sea aquarium sump. Its design allows for using a coiled strip or wad filter floss that can be replaced without removing the cup or tray. The insert is also deep enough to rest just below the water's surface, eliminating dripping water noise. Additionally, I added a waterfall-like tapper to the top to encourage quiet water flow over the floss. Update 6/24/2018: After receiving several requests, I've created a tall version of this filter cup. This was done quickly using Microsoft 3D Builder. I split the model just below the tapper, then scaled the lower half horizontally upwards. I merged the two halves back together and exported as STL. However, 3D Builder left the mesh open, so I had to repair it in Netfabb. Please note that I haven't printed this yet; if you do, please share your experience in the comments.
