Rick and Morty (Rick and Morty) is an American animated adult series created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, which has been airing since December 2, 2013 on Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim slot. The series follows the misadventures of Rick Sanchez, a cynical and whimsical scientist, and his troubled and easily influenced grandson, Morty Smith, who divide their time between a domestic life and interdimensional adventures. Roiland doubles as the main characters, while Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke lend their voices to the rest of the family. The series originated as a short animated parody based on the Back to the Future film trilogy, titled The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti, created by Roiland for Channel 101, a short film festival co-founded by Harmon. When Adult Swim approaches Harmon for TV show ideas, he and Roiland decide to develop a program based on the short. The first season of the series consisted of eleven episodes of approximately 22 minutes and ended in April 2014. A second season, consisting of ten episodes, began in July 2015 and ended in October of the same year. In August 2015, production of a ten-episode third season at Adult Swim was announced. Originally expected to air in late 2016, it eventually aired from April 1, 2017. In France, seasons 1 and 2 were broadcast on France 4 from 9 October 2015 in the "Reanimation" slot at a rate of two episodes per week. The series is rebroadcast on Toonami in the [adult swim] slot (offered in the evening between 11:00 pm and 2:00 am) with season 3 as a TV premiere and season 4. It is also available on Netflix. The series is also dubbed in Quebec and aired since May 18, 2018 on Teletoon in the Teletoon la Nuit block. The program is very well received by critics for its originality, creativity and humor.
