The story takes place in a snowflake. The Grinch is a green-haired bogeyman with an ear-to-ear grin. An exiled Misanthrope, he has been living in a cave on Mount Crumpit with his dog Max for 53 years. He feeds on lettuce juice, castor oil and sour milk, and has a heart too small to love anyone. Taken in by two charming old ladies, the Grinch would have liked to have a normal childhood and schooling, to have friends and to flirt with the kind Martha who looked after him with a tender eye. But the little Cabbages behaved so cruelly with him that they forced him into exile. And so the Grinch became a grumpy hermit and a prankster who hates Christmas and everything that goes with it. Especially the Christmas of the people of Chouville, down in the valley. Their holiday preparations and melodious singing have always annoyed him to no end. He is allergic to all the joy that emanates from this small town. But one little girl, Cindy Lou, wants to know more about the man who is being touted as a monster. To do so, she bravely climbs Mount Crumpit and goes to knock on the Grinch's door. After trying to scare her, the recluse, moved in spite of himself by so much solicitude, takes the risk of going down to Chouville and mingling with the inhabitants. Alas, his hopes of being named director of the festivities are dashed by the mayor, and the Grinch returns to his lair, determined to take his revenge. He has a monstrous idea: he dresses up as Santa Claus, builds a sleigh, disguises his dog as a reindeer and goes from house to house with his big empty bag to steal all the presents, Christmas trees, logs and turkeys and thus spoil the night of Christmas Eve for the inhabitants of Chouville. But he soon discovers that the spirit of Christmas is not limited to toys, songs, parades and other gifts...
