Filawinder Thickness Gauge
thingiverse
Sandwich the filament between bearings and display its thickness. Works good enough, despite some slop caused by how the gauge bearing is held in place. The filament's pull forces the setup into a consistent orientation when it's turning, so it works fine. Also, the extra tension from the bearings winds up the spool tightly. Drill holes wherever needed to mount the thickness gauge. I found that really securing the tube stops it from moving when the filawinder turns on or off, which helps consistency. (That's why I used a white piece.) Original files are included. I had to adjust the 5 mm post diameters several times to get them to fit right. The one in the gauge holder needed to be made smaller than the bearing holder that's held by the gauge. This might be due to my printer, so you'll probably need to modify it for yours. Thickness Gauge: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B008H1DL3M?ie=UTF8&condition=new&seller=AA3DL1YN5S7YK You also need 2 - 5mm ID X 16mm OD X 5 mm wide bearings. (I forgot the specific bearing number I ordered.) Some 3mm hardware is also needed. Video showing it in operation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY3piKnrT8c Update: Added a Bearing on Gauge STL with a smaller, 4.25 mm bore. My plan is to print this and then get a 4.5 mm drill bit for an even tighter fit on the measuring post.
