Filament switch
thingiverse
This is a filament change switch that can be switched on the fly. It requires a second extruder without a hot end and some Bowden tube and connectors. One side of the switch, preferably the female side, gets wired in parallel with the original extruder. The other side goes to the second extruder. When the filament runs out, the switch triggers and brings the second extruder online while simultaneously aligning the new filament. Update: Here's the eBay number for the plug I used - 182604422415. When building the male end, I fused two together with a soldering iron. It could be modified to use a single wire/contact then toggle a relay. I did tune the plug slightly. I used a nail file to bevel the ends of the pins, making them more pointed, and got a small drill bit, only slightly larger than the pins, and turned it by hand to give the female side of the plug a smoother entry. The spring is actually from an ink pen; it could stand to be slightly stronger. Update: I've updated the STLs. The fillet on the second hole of the main body was incorrect. I moved it to the bottom of the slider.
