Filament Storage Solution (IKEA SAMLA)

The IKEA SAMLA Box is the perfect storage solution for my needs. Its profiled wall design makes it very stable, able to hold up to five 750g standard spools with ease. I also add silica gel inside for added security. To take it a step further, installing an installation tube in the box allows me to feed the filament directly from the box into my printer - a real convenience! The diameter of my spool is around 20 cm (8 inches), but there's still plenty of space left to the wall, so a spool with a 21.5 cm (8.5 inch) diameter will fit fine as well. It's fast and easy to print using the IKEA SAMLA Box design, which also makes assembly a breeze. The drilling jig provided is an added bonus that saves me time. The STL files for M4 screws and nuts are included, but this project is fully customizable - you can adjust it to fit your specific needs or switch out tubes/boxes for inch parts. Some additional recommendations include: - A spacer to hold the spools apart (I use simple_spacer_32x5.stl and simple_spacer_32x10.stl) - The Spool Adapter for perfect fitting of different spools - A Filament Clip To seal your boxes and control humidity, consider using these items: - SAMLA Lid Clips - Angled Dry Box Feeder or 1.75mm Filament Feeder for Dry Box Other useful items include: - Filament Wall Support Print settings: Rafts: Doesn't matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 mm layer thickness Infill: 20% Important notes: I print it without the bottom layer, as this prevents warping on my non-heated print bed. Version history: - Version 2.0: The customizer now calculates the correct tube length for easier creation for different boxes. - Version 2.0.1: A fix was implemented for the latest customizer version. Instructions: Parts list per box: - IKEA SAMLA Box with Lid (22 l / 6 gallon) - part number 798.508.75 - 32mm installation tube/pipe (or a 1.25 inch tube which will also fit) - 2x printed socket - 6x M4x8 bolts (M4x10mm can also be used) - 6x M4 nuts - 6x M4 washers Tools required: - Electric drill - 4 mm drill - Pipe cutter or miter box with saw - Screwdriver Build steps: - Print two sockets per box - Print one drilling jig - Use the drilling jig to drill three holes on each side of the box - Mount the sockets as shown in the images - Cut the installation tube at 315 mm (12.4 inch) - Place the spools on the tube and mount it onto the sockets. Then push the side wall a bit apart, allowing the tube to snap into place within the sockets
