Filament spool with aluminum bar
thingiverse
This aluminum filament spool features a variable diameter to accommodate different filament providers. The pin design includes a nut for secure attachment to a workbench and can be customized as needed. The central hub is reversible, changing the ledge of the spool. Stirrups with adjustable width slots secure filaments 1.7mm and 3mm in diameter. To create this project, print parts including a hub, pin, three brackets, and three grafts (no support needed). Pause printing for the pin to insert a nut, cut three 10x10mm aluminum bars at 180mm long, and file sites for friction. Insert two ball bearings into the hub and then the aluminum bars near the hub with stirrups. Secure filament in place by expanding stirrups and fastening with appropriate grafts. Finally, insert the spool onto the pin; a hydraulic gasket can be added beforehand if needed to prevent excessive rotation.
