Filament Spool Rack for 20qt Sterilite Container
thingiverse
This is a rack to support multiple filament spools above dessicant (silica or activated alumina) in a Sterilite 20qt airtight container, available from Target for around $7. Rather than placing the spools directly on top of the dessicant, I wanted to support them above the dessicant. So, I made these custom supports that fit perfectly into the Sterilite containers. The containers will hold four spools (or five narrow spools) of filament comfortably and have a good seal, allowing moisture levels to drop to around 20% with silica or 10% with activated alumina. For each container, you'll need: * Two copies of this part * Two aluminum or steel rods, either 5/16" (8mm) or 3/8" (9.5mm) in diameter I initially used 5/16" aluminum rods for my first set but then switched to 3/8" rods for the second set since local hardware stores were out of 5/16" rods. The rods need to be cut to approximately 325mm or 12-3/4 inches long, and it's not crucial to get the length precisely right. I highly recommend chamfering the ends of the rods so they slide into the parts more easily. I simply used a jigsaw with a metal blade to cut the rods to length and a Dremel to smooth and chamfer them. When printing these supports, I suggest using a 0.3mm layer height for speed (though 0.2mm is also acceptable). I used 30% rectilinear infill, which is more than sufficient; any higher infill rate is unnecessary.
