Filament spool

Filament spool

pinshape

This is my design for a filament spool, perfect for individuals who, like me, manufacture their own 3D printing filament. Two STL files are included: one for the sides (which need to be printed twice) and one for the middle section. The middle section features pads at one end that enable it to stick to the print bed. These pads will have to be broken off or cut after printing. To assemble the spool, the three parts must be glued together. I manufacture mine from ABS, so I use "ABS glue" (scrap pieces of ABS mixed with acetone). Dimensions - The sides are 200mm in diameter, while the middle section is 90mm in diameter and 75mm long. The centre hole is designed to be 30mm in diameter, although it often turns out slightly smaller in practice. The overall weight comes out to roughly 158 grams. A photo shows one assembled spool (roughly printed), made from cheap recycled homemade ABS filament. One word of caution: the outer edges of the spool sides can warp or lift during printing. To prevent this, ensure that the print is well stuck to the print bed. UPDATE: I have uploaded another version of this design, called "Filament Spool 2." It's a bit simpler, making it easier to print.
