This freewheeling spool holder leverages standard skateboard bearings to handle the weight of a filament spool. The spool rotates freely, accommodating various widths by providing space for additional bearings. As assembled and offered, this spool holder supports widths of 70mm and 90mm, typical of 1kg and 3kg spools respectively. OpenSCAD source code is also provided, allowing users to customize the design according to their specific needs or modify it as desired. Users are encouraged to share and collaborate on the design. Print Settings: Printer Brand: SeeMeCNC Printer: Rostock MAX Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Whatever works; I used 0.2mm layers Infill: Medium, approximately 40% Notes: Don't stress too much – this spool holder prints easily. Post-Printing: Insert bearings Place near printer Mount the spool on the holder Thread filament Print a test print How I Designed This: Tired of standard spool holders? Look around and notice that others' designs often fall short. Either they require additional hardware beyond bearings or don't provide OpenSCAD source code, and they may not accommodate 90mm spools (3kg). OpenSCAD to the rescue! Obtain the dimensions of 608z bearings from online resources Model a design that allows the bearing to rotate while also providing support for its weight Replicate and rotate this design, adding rails to keep it intact Add an additional rail with holes for securing it to a base surface Print it – it's awesome!
