Filament Spool Holder

Filament Spool Holder

This is a spool holder I designed specifically for the TEVO Tarantula, although it can be easily adapted for use with other printers featuring similar frame types. The primary goal was to create a setup where the spool rotates clockwise while the filament emerges from underneath and enters the extruder. To minimize catching and jerking of the spool during filament feeding, I have rounded the top edge of the spool arm. Two arm widths are available: one for spools up to 45mm in width and another for spools as wide as 50mm. Update: A new holder has been added, featuring a length of 15mm more than the original and an arm width of 75mm, designed to accommodate larger spools that measure up to 70mm in width. This revised design has also been strengthened to handle the weight and size of these bigger spools. To create this part, I utilized 123D Design, then sliced it using Repetier Host and Cura. The part is secured with M4 bolts, accompanied by M4 washers and T-Nuts of suitable size, arranged in a configuration that involves passing the bolt and washer through a hole followed by inserting the T-Nut into the frame. Printing settings were as follows: First Layer Height: 0.35mm Layer Height: 0.3mm Print Speed: 45mm/s Infill Density: 10% (though I would typically use 15%) Bed Temperature: 50c Nozzle Temperature: 210c Fan Duct was installed, and the print was executed on a glass surface with tape applied. I set the infill to 10% due to running low on filament but normally would opt for 15%. Even at 10%, it still produced satisfactory results.
