Filament Spool Holder System
thingiverse
This is another ingenious filament spool holder for Makerbot 2. It neatly stores numerous spools of filament above the Makerbot on sturdy rods.\nThe concept may not be groundbreaking, I actually derived it from several innovative designs by fellow creators (check out Remixed in section). The benefits and improvements in my design are: \nIt positions the spools centrally over the Makerbot instead of awkwardly placed at its rear edge. To be honest, no one had previously reported issues with weight toppling the printer, but this seems like a more natural solution. \nThis system easily adapts to taller constructions with additional spools of filament. \nThe holder conveniently accommodates 1/2-inch rods that I already had on hand. The result has an airy, minimalist aesthetic.\nI use standard 1/2-inch threaded rods for optimal stability. Alternative designs from other makers utilize varying rod diameters or non-threaded rods, requiring only minor adjustments or modifications.\nOne of the key advantages is that the rods can be routed through the central supports (originally envisioned) or secured to their sides via strategically placed hooks. Observing others' projects in this space has sparked a multitude of creative solutions and ideas for further refinements.\nThere are two types of support mechanisms: the first version lacked built-in attachment points for side rod hooks, which necessitated a temporary workaround; I later upgraded to an improved design featuring side hooks as an integral part, greatly enhancing stability while slightly increasing print times due to complex geometries.\nBridge defects arose occasionally during printing but can be attributed to the ongoing improvement process.
