Filament Spool Holder No Support Or Added Parts #FilamentChallenge
thingiverse
I created this compact Spool Holder with two key factors in mind. Firstly, it can be printed without supports, making it easily accessible to many printers (both basic and advanced). Secondly, I aimed for a design that doesn't require additional parts beyond 3D printable plastic, as incorporating other components like a skateboard bearing could limit its accessibility or require a separate purchase. To overcome this issue, I searched on Thingiverse and discovered a compact bearing with free-spinning capabilities: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451. I then modified the design in their customizer to fit my Spool Holder. After experimenting with various designs, I conceived the idea of using the hexagonal cut hole in the bearing alongside two stand pieces to form the holder. This feature enables me to create attachments with the same hexagonal cut for use on top of printers, saving time and plastic by eliminating the need for new bearings. My 3D modeling skills are still developing as this project is only my tenth design and print, and my first uploaded to Thingiverse. I hope you find it useful. To print this Spool Holder, you will need two Side Stands and Bearings (one for each side of the spool), four Nuts, and one Hex Beam. Use a 20% Infill setting and 0.3 layer height, as I did with my PLA plastic prints (I haven't tested ABS yet). If your bearing doesn't fit your spool, visit: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451 and adjust the tolerance to 0.4mm. Feel free to leave questions in the comments if you need further assistance.
