Filament spool holder for Tronxy X5SA with direct drive
prusaprinters
In the absence of any information online and despite the terribly incomplete video by Tronxy, I installed their direct extruder kit. I wanted a way to mount the filament spool above the printer in order to avoid the Bowden tube and its friction and tangling. Tronxy never mentions how to deal with that.I looked on all the usual model repositories and couldn't find anything that would work, so I looked at an existing design and after several modifications and prototypes, I came up with this monster. I needed a design that would mount in the left rear corner and attach to the 20X20 extrusion, since that is the only area that is clear of all the moving parts. After several failed attempts to adapt the original pieces of the design, I gave up and started from scratch and made everything beefier and way bigger.I added wire to the filament sensor and routed it through the cable chain. I simply stuck it on a tiny piece of tubing and it flops around, being held in place by the filament. So far it works. Maybe now after all these mods I can start using it. The original extruder just quit working and all the bolts holding it together were loose (junk). This is version four: I added a six inch extension, replaced the rolling spindle with a simpler, single piece and made a filament guide.15-20% Infill should be enough. Print the arm nearly vertical to keep it inside the build area and avoid excessive support material.Assembly Instructions: You will need four M4 T-nuts and screws. I countersunk the holes to use shorter screws. The rest just screws together per the photos!
