Filament Spool Holder

Filament Spool Holder

thingiverse

This design was originally sourced from Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:148454). Although the creator used metric parts, the designer couldn't find those locally and altered the design to use cheaper imperial components from their local hardware store. An additional tweak made both cone wedges identical. The designer has also added printable mounting clips and generic brackets for a second spool on a desk shelf. Print 2x of part A (no supports), 1x of part B, and 2x of part C. Part D is optional but provides a cone-shaped spacer to keep the spool away from printer frames by 15mm. Part E is an optional mounting bracket for attaching the rod to any surface with drilled bolt holes. You'll need a 12" 1/4" threaded rod, two 1/4" hex nuts, and three 1/4" threaded rod couplings. For bearings, the designer used radial bearings (cheaper than precision ones), 3/8" inner diameter, and 1 1/8" outer diameter. Steel spacers with 1/4" inner diameter and 3/8" outer diameter were used to fit the bearings onto the threaded rods. All parts can be found at a local Ace Hardware store for about $10. Note that loctite was applied carefully to secure the bearings' inner hubs, fixed cone nuts, and couplings in mounting clips.
