This spool axle accommodates 52mm diameter spools, utilizing two standard 608ZZ ball bearings. Using higher-friction cheap ball bearings is acceptable, as they act as a gentle brake due to their increased friction. The device comes equipped with spring-loaded or rubber band-loaded movable clips that secure the filament spool against sideways slippage. One clip per tube is sufficient for basic functionality, but two or three provide added redundancy for improved stability. To attach the clips, thread a small rubber band through the clip's hole and over one spoke on the opposing end of the tube, then press in the bearings to prevent the bands from slipping off. To insert or remove a filament spool, pull out the clips until they can be swiveled by 90 degrees, allowing both to fit through the spool's inner hole.
