The hub measures 12mm in diameter, so any tube or shaft under that size (0.5 inches) should fit without issue. The steps have been designed to accommodate all spool types I've worked with so far. To connect the two sides, use M3 threaded shafts - there's no need to waste good filament on a spool adapter when you can repurpose leftovers instead.
