Filament Splicer & Joiner with Roll Holder
cults3d
Hi, This is my filament splicer/joiner that I designed for the purpose of consuming entire rolls of filament and also enabling multi-color prints. I also made a spool holder to clamp to my desk. Splicer will fit desks up to 30mm and the roll holders desks up to 35mm thick (No idea why I did different sizes). If you need bigger just yell out and I'll try to help. I have included text and a picture with directions on how to use the splicer. I also recorded a quick video, it's not great but should get the idea across. It's a very simple process, less than 30 seconds and seems to work quite reliably. Crude Instructional Video -> https://photos.app.goo.gl/UpAShMW58KdEe2i16 Text Instructions: 1) Cut Filament-A with a flat cut and feed it through the longer bowden tube on the splicer tool. Have it poking out about 15mm. 2) Prepare Filament-B with an angled cut. 3) Take a lighter and heat the end of Filament-A so its melted, pull it back through the bowden tube and follow it with Filament-B as fast as you safely can. 4) Give them a good push together. I found pulling Filament-A all the way out helped shape the join a bit nicer. You can use the smaller top bowden and screw to secure your newly joined filament so you can clean it up with some sand paper etc. Splicer Parts: BowdenHolder.stl 15mm bolt.stl 20mm bolt.stl MainBody.stl (Requires M5x20mm bolt & M5 nut. Approx 80mm & 20mm cut of Bowden Tube inserted into holes where filament contacts the part) I also made roll holders as seen in the picture. It just makes it really easy to re-spool a roll of filament. Body.stl Screw.stl Spool Holder.stl (Requires M5x20mm bolt & M5 nut) I printed on my Ender 3v2, no special settings. Just run a higher infill. I used around 60% on the splicer and around 25% on the roll holders just so the clamp bodies wouldn't ever break. A little overkill but you can do what makes sense to you.
