To address the difficulty of replacing spindles on our Solidoddle 3, I designed this setup. It also resolves the issue of varying filament roll sizes fitting the PCV holder. This project allows for 2-3 spindles, depending on their dimensions. There's a window in front to view filament levels and back feed for stackable bins. All materials were sourced at Home Depot. The parts list includes: one Rubbermaid bin with a front-facing door and window (http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?Prod_ID=RP092094), one 1/2 in. x 24 in. zinc threaded rod (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bolt-1-2-in-x-24-in-Zinc-Threaded-Rod-17200/100338387?keyword=threaded+rod+1%2F2+in+x+2ft#.Ug1kwT9WSh0), and 3 or 4 each of 1/2 in.-13 zinc-plated grade 8 hex nuts (http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-13-Zinc-Plated-Grade-8-Hex-Nut-96848/202210358#.Ug1lOD9WSh0) and 1/2 in. torque washers (http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-Torque-Washer-47648/203577225#.Ug1lnT9WSh0). Instructions: drill a hole in each side of the bin for the threaded rod, and three small holes in the back for filament exit; place spindles inside, run the rod through the sides and spindle holes, secure with nuts and washers; finally, feed filament through the back holes. Note: use 2-4 washers and nuts depending on preference.
