Filament Sensor Mount for CR-10
thingiverse
This is an improved filament runout sensor mount designed specifically for the CR-10 printer. Revision June 1, 2018: A new revision has been uploaded with a thicker base plate to increase resistance against long-term strain from filament tension. The filament path has been minimized and constrained right up to the cutaway for the switch lever's movement. The design aims to lead directly into the extruder at the correct height and position. It is specifically tailored to work with the EXR Struder by SeeMeCNC, but also aligns well with stock and aluminum versions. When screwing it to the two screws that mount the bearing on the Z rods, be cautious not to overtighten, as this may constrain the bearing from moving into its most comfortable position for free movement. Also, take a look at my tape fix for the metal switch lever, which is likely the main reason many users have problems inserting filament. This design includes a mounting point for a PFTE tube at the entrance, helping to bend and align the filament with the new path to the extruder without wearing down the sensor mount. Print both parts without supports, laying them flat on their backs and open clamshell upward. Print at 0.1 layer height and 35mm/s to achieve sharp details. You will need two socket head or button head M3 x 10mm screws and three countersunk M3 x 10mm screws. For assortments like this project, consider purchasing a set of M3 x 10mm screws from: http://a.co/8sZ7tY4 or a full assortment: http://a.co/1QCcfcb Additionally, you will need three countersunk M3 x 10mm screws from: http://a.co/h1ciAqL For the PFTE tubing, use a 30mm length and cut it with a sharp razor, then flair the exposed end slightly with a Phillips screwdriver. If you create one of these filament runout sensor mounts, please share your "make" photos. •••• Update March 2: The filambox5 files have been updated with a slightly adjusted height to better align the path to the extruder. Some internal issues have also been repaired. The rear screw mount has been opened to allow you to leave the brass bearing connected with one screw. Updates on Base6 include an opening at a higher angle to make mounting easier without removing the rear screw, but this still needs testing. *** Update March 4: Following user tests and comments, version 7 has been made. The screw holes have been made longer and countersinks wider to accommodate standard screws from the stock filament holder. Oval openings for screw mounts have also been created to allow more flexibility in mounting and less stress on bearing position. For this reason, the open-ended top screw was removed. Thanks!
