Filament Sensor For CR10 with Direct Drive Extruder
thingiverse
I upgraded my CR-10S to a Bondtech Direct Drive setup primarily for enhanced performance when working with TPU material. After removing the Boden Stepper, I utilized my existing Filament Sensor switch to feed the Bondtech. Although not ideal, this involved mounting it using screws that held the lead screw threads – which are not supposed to be overly tight. The exit lacked a fitting, making it difficult to feed filament into the extruder. To address this issue, I tried adding a coupling onto the filament switch; however, this setup proved unstable as well. To resolve these problems, I decided to repurpose the old Boden Extruder plate and create a mount for the filament switch. This solution provided a solid foundation and a sturdy coupler for the feed tube, greatly improving the overall setup. Additionally, I designed an alternative version that allows the filament to pass through without using the switch. I printed the base part in PLA with a vertical orientation, which resulted in minimal supports – only on the rounded section and the interior area where the switch protrudes, ensuring a cleaner finish.
