UPDATE: 10/22/2022 Added a different Front Cover that is not part of the filament path: it can be removed while printing.

UPDATE: 10/18/2022 I wasn't happy with having to occasionally fidget with the filament to get it to exit the other end of the sensor base. So, I redesigned the inside path to be much less restrictive and freer flowing. The newer version of the Sensor Base is uploaded.

This mounts to the TUSH bracket I created for my AMBP, i.e., Black Printers Matter.

It puts the sensor well away from the extruder and close to the spool, giving plenty of notice of filament runout.

You will need:

an end stop switch:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073TYWX86/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3ea M3x6mm self-tapping screws

Appropriate connectors: I used 2.5mm JST SM (Dupont)

Print Settings

Printer:

My AMBP

Rafts:

No

Support:

Needed for Sensor Base and Top Left Corner Frame Cover

Resolution:

Fine, .15 in Cura

Infill:

15%

Filament:

eSun PLA+ is what I used

Notes:

Use CA to glue the Pin into the recess in the back of the Sensor Base.

The Pin on the back of the Sensor Base fits into the Mount and is retained by the Cap and an M3x6mm self-tapping screw.

The Mount screws to the TUSH bracket using 2ea M3x6mm self-tapping screws.

The switch wiring fits through the holes in the TUSH bracket to allow it to ride in the top cross frame rail, under the Top Left Corner Cover, and down the backside Gantry rail. It is shortened with JST connectors in the Top Rail for easy repair if/when necessary.

The metal switch actuator will need a slight bend outward and then back inward at the end.

I created covers for the top rail, top left corner, and backside gantry to hide/guide the wiring.

The TUSH Bracket can be positioned so the wiring exits from either side into the Top Cross rail.

The Top Left Corner Cover (mirror for Right) is designed around a 19mm x 19mm Z End Stop, which is included. The 20mm x 20mm Z End Stop found in the AMBP will not fit.

Category: 3D Printer Accessories
