Filament Runout Sensor for Marlin and Octoprint

Filament Runout Sensor for Marlin and Octoprint

This is a mechanical filament sensor that works with every type of 1.75mm filament, making it a reliable choice compared to optic sensors which may fail when used with clear filament color. To utilize this sensor, you will need a Raspberry Pi OctoPrint setup as well as the plugin mentioned below. Marlin also supports filament sensors and can be connected to ramps or rambo boards, but if you are using octoprint, ensure that the sensor is connected directly to the raspberry pi to prevent marlin from sending an M600 command which can cause a timeout and print failure. For more information on configuring marlin for this feature, visit: http://marlinfw.org/docs/configuration/configuration.html#filament-runout-sensor A video demonstrating the connection of the sensor to a raspberry pi is available at: http://bit.ly/sensorvideo The octopi plugin can be found here: http://bit.ly/sensorplugin You can purchase an endstop sensor from this aliexpress link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-Helicopter-Crash-Collision-Sensor-Impact-Switch-Module-Robot-Model-For-Arduino-with-Dupont-Cable/32294958229.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.5chV7F To mount the sensor, you can use one of the available designs from thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2205663 or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2044085 When using this sensor, it's recommended to apply some hot glue between the sensor and its enclosure (about the size of a pea). When the filament runs out, the sensor will send a pause command to the printer, allowing you to unload the filament and wait for new material. You can also add an M600 command to the pause event on octoprint settings/gcode commands page, which will cause the extruder to go to the corner and unload the filament. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Prusa Printer Model: Prusa Steel Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 50% Notes: After printing, use a 2mm drill bit to clean out the filament hole before installing the endstop sensor.
