Filament run out sensor manual switch octoprint plugin filter
thingiverse
This filament run off switch utilizes the Octoprint plugin filament sensor software, specifically the reloaded version, not the original one. It's running on a raspberry Pi 3. I employ a manual switch that I've modified by bending the head forward to provide more room for the filament to glide over. The edge is somewhat sharp, but it functions perfectly fine. The filament sensor reloaded plugin requires connecting cables to the 18 and 20 pins, 24 GPIO, and ground. The code utilizes the internal pull-up sensor, so this should work without any issues. On the other hand, the old filament plugin can be a bit unpredictable. I use a pull-down resistor with physical pins 1 (3.3v), 6 (ground), 32 (GPIO 12) in this configuration. You can refer to the jpg for the .octoprint/config.yaml file and wiring diagram. To check the pin status, simply enter "gpio read 26" on the Octoprint command line. A reading of 1 indicates that there is filament present, while a reading of 0 means it's gone. I will be adding more housing options in the near future. The old plugin is available here: Octoprint plugin link: http://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/filament_sensor/ For the new plugin, check out: http://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/filament_sensor_reloaded/ **Print Settings** Printer: Geeetech prob Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20 **Post-Printing** I've added an optional screw-on switch cover to this setup. The switch fits pretty tightly without it, but the cover provides a nice extra layer of security and protection.
