Filament Reel Hub Cap
thingiverse
I set out to revamp my initial Reel Cap on Thingiverse but opted instead for a complete overhaul, determined to craft a design that could be easily tailored to fit different sizes of reel hubs. In the process, I decided to give Autodesk Fusion 360 a try, taking advantage of its free version to get a feel for how it works. As I've been experimenting with various filaments, I incorporated all the different options into my new design. Although I began work on the design in Designspark, I'm unsure whether sharing those iterations would be worth it since they wouldn't be fully complete. The Verbatim ABS 1KG reel and the Verbatim PLA 1KG reels have slightly different hub diameters. In contrast, the UP 500 g and the RS ABS-Pro 500g reel hubs are similar enough to use a single Hub Cap. However, the RS 300g reel - which includes both the ABS standard and PET-G materials - boasts a significantly smaller hub. Due to the fact that some of the Hub Caps are quite comparable in size, and I had printed them all with white UP ABS, I became confused as to which one was which; consequently, I added text labels. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa Mendel Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: You don't need to print a raft or support, but I find it's preferable to do so; if you want the inset text to show up, it would be best to print at a higher resolution than 0.2mm. My original intention was to incorporate inset text and fill in the lettering with a paint pen.
