Show off your filaments in the way an artist would show off their tools. Much in the same way an artist would display their paints, pencils, or markers, this solution shows off your filaments as your artistic medium. Various storage solutions holding from 7 to 169 different filament pencils all maintaining the hexagon shape. Largest holder filled with 169 swatches is 13.8cm x 12.2cm x 6cm.Store your different filament materials by printing the holders in different colors or sizes to suite the amount of filaments you own. Forgive my lack of filament samples, only been in the hobby a couple months and starting my collection. As such, I only printed samples for PLA, PLA+, and PETG which all worked.Modelled after the dimensions of a pencil, but shortened to allow for fast, quick, and simple printing. Able to print vertically to allow for vase mode using less than 1g or 23cm of material and in less than 10 minutes. Printing GuideI sliced with 4 bottom layers and in vase mode. The 4 bottom layers is beneficial for filaments that might be more translucent to see how it will look with more than one perimeter.Filament Pencil SwatchNozzle is 0.4mmLayer Height: 0.20mmSolid Bottom Layers: 4Vase Mode: True (with accepting all changes)NOTE: I normally run my printer from a Raspberry Pi using OctoPrint. Even with a baud rate of 250,000 the top of the “sharpened pencil” has a lot of quick moves. I found better performance when putting the gcode on the SD card and printing directly from there. See the picture with the red and space gray examples both printed from the same gcode, same material, and same vendor. Only difference is red was printed from OctoPrint and space gray from the SD card.Filament HolderLayer Height: 0.20mmNOTE: I did not really change any other settings. Model has 0.8mm for the base to give it some weight to not move as easily when not full. Internal of holder is repeating single perimeter hexagons with a 0.4mm wall, and 0.8mm when adjacent to another hexagon.LabellingI wanted a labelling mechanism that was easy to manage. I sized the pencils to use a standard address label as I had some around the house. Opened up Word with the label template, wrote out the information needed to print with the filament again, clicked print. Need to include QR codes, print them on the labels. Buy more filaments, simply print more labels. Additionally, the holder is sized to allow the label to be wrapped around the pencil and hidden from sight when stored. This keeps the focus on the assortment of filaments and colors, rather than labels. Labels: I used what I have around the house which is Avery Address Labels 1" x 2-5/8" which are approximately 25.4mm x 66.68mm. Any smaller size should work as I sized the holder to accommodate the additional paper added to the pencil.
