Filament Nudger for 3Doodler
thingiverse
The 3Doodler occasionally faces extrusion issues, a problem also encountered by regular 3D printers. However, this device is easy to get back on track with a gentle filament nudge. The Filament Nudger is designed to reduce stalls and jams, continuously applying a gentle force to the filament. Powered by rubber bands, it works in tandem with or without the Phaser Handle mentioned in another blog post. The Filament Grabber mechanism functions like a one-way clutch, pulling the filament towards the 3Doodler but releasing when pulled in the opposite direction or hitting the 3Doodler's back. Rubber bands provide effective force to keep the extruder moving, without hindering filament retraction for non-oozing functionality. The Nudger is particularly beneficial with 3Doodler's filament sticks, allowing easy installation of new sticks once the trailing end disappears into the device. However, using unauthorized materials like coiled filament can void the warranty and isn't recommended by 3Doodler. To assemble the Filament Nudger, attach a small piece of filament as a hinge pin with the 3Doodler, fasten a frame to the 3Doodler using a zip-tie, insert two 7-inch bamboo skewers into the frame (drilling or locking in if necessary), add the Grabber and Filament Guide components correctly, and finally attach rubber bands as shown.
