Filament length counter (Printrbot simple metal)

Human: 12/31/2019 UPDATE: Okay, this printer is long gone and so's the drive to work on this thing - obviously\nBut just in case others still find it useful, I'm going to leave this idea here\nIt seems like lots of people are still really into this design despite the fact that I've moved on to bigger things in my life, started a new job, moved out and taken on some big changes, took a break from all things "making" and now I'm back!\nMy goal is to revive this project from its deep slumber in my project bucket and finally come up with something easy for everyone to use!\nFirst off, I announce the design phase for a printable mechanical counter compatible with this very same design! You can expect updates galore coming soon\nBack when I was making this filament counter thing, it displayed the amount of filament used, and got pretty specific too - even going down to tenths place as evidenced by that pesky white-out decimal point on it\nThis one uses a core from an old Veeder-Root 742946-201 non-resetable rotary counter that's super hard to find - just imagine being able to locate another one in the wild, not to mention their siblings cost way more than $100 - anyway I will definitely be making this counter eventually or maybe someone else beats me to it http://www.ebay.com/itm/DANAHER-VEEDER-ROOT-0742845-001-MECHANICAL-RESET-COUNTER-5-DIGIT-XLNT-/150854138839?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231f9b7bd7 ############################################################################ ############################################################################ WORK IS NOW UNDERWAY FOR A BRAND NEW VERSION 2 USING $4 ELECTROMECHANICAL COUNTERS YOU CAN FIND ON EBAY THAT RUN ON 5V PULSE SIGNAL It just so happens that I already have one of these fancy new counters on its way from china - but bear with me as it might take a while for me to start working on this updated version\nYou should be good to go with your very own compatible counter! Just the basic parts you'll need include: one electromechanical counter five-volt signal sender connector leads and if possible - some sort of handle or rod Here's a simple list of things that are required: rubber bands and some glue if desired, a hole reaming tool 5/16-inch bolts to keep everything firmly in place (but they won't really affect how well it works either way) - one rubber band connector leads five-volt signal sender I even took the liberty of custom mounting this design on my printrbot to fit it to some metal, making it a bit more unique looking, but honestly I can do much better! My friends tell me they can easily finish with just these little extras and it'll be perfect!
