Filament guide with safety guards
thingiverse
I really like this filament guide, it is a sturdy fit, doesn't squeak, and has a minimal design. However, I had the misfortune of discovering a unique shortfall of this guide (prob just unique to me): I was fiddling with the back of my printer, trying to screw something back in, and was leaning my head over the back to see what I was doing. I moved my head ever so slightly to stand back straight, and as I was moving my head the guide harpooned me right in the side of the eye (it was hiding just outside of my peripheral vision). Took me out for two days. So I did this shoddy remix with loops to make it so you can't jab yourself in the eye with the holder part. I have tested it in various permutations, and have not found a way to re-harpoon my eye, so it seems to be accomplishing my goal. It is not any where as easy to print as the original. I found printing it standing straight up, using the Custom Supports Cura plug in, works best. It still looks like garbage when it is done, but functionally it does exactly what it needs to. If you are even mildly accident prone like me, I highly recommend spending the extra time printing this guide (or please make a better version than this one so that I can use it). No special printing settings, other than using Custom Supports. I have an Ender 3, and an Ender 3 Pro, both purchased in 2022, and this fits the rails the same on both.
