Filament Guide

Filament Guide

I've been using a Tech Shop Filament Guide that works like a charm, but I had some issues with the filament un-spooling or jumping off the spool. The guide utilizes an 8" piece of PTFE tubing (4mm OD/2mm ID) to keep the filament in place on the spool. This clever design reaches over part way over the top of the spool, making it perfect for printers with extruded aluminum chassis, although it may also be used on other printers featuring two 5mm mounting holes. Since installing this guide, I haven't had a single incident where the filament unwound or jumped off the spool. Update: July 19, 2016 I came up with another design for a filament guide that utilizes 1/4" PTFE tubing. This is perfect if you're using my Airtight Filament Canister (check out this thing on Thingiverse:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1332650). This new filament guide allows direct connection to the canister, eliminating the hassle of separate installation. What's more, I've found that 1/4" tubing reduces drag when using a spool. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 40% Notes: I use PLA with my Prusa i3 RepRap. I heat the extruder to 195C and the bed to 50C, utilizing a Kapton sheet for improved adhesion.
