Filament Guide - Now with Addition

[Mar. 22, 2020] - Added a modified version of the filament guide. Although the original guide works well for me 99% of the time, I have had occasional problems: when the extrusion head is very high and the filament is brittle, it can break the filament. The modified version clamp raises the guide higher by about an inch (the guide part is the same). If you have already printed the original and want to try the modification you can simply print the modified clamp only and re-use the guide from the original.

Two-part filament guide, designed to clamp onto the top bar of the printer frame. I use two - one for each reel on my MK3/S.

The design was inspired by others I found online, but which unfortunately I found broke too easily. This two part guide is designed to bend or come apart if you hit it too hard - the two pieces just snap together.

The design was done in OnShape 3D CAD (design files available at the link below).

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/14c1999b1cf182a40b2edd06/w/eaead6ceb6c8eb4ec267ec80/e/4435f6111c2eb57007fa8e19

Print instructions

Just use the .3mg or gcode file to print both parts in PLA at the same time.

Alternatively: Set perimeters to 5 and use a brim. Orient the clamp part sideways and the guide part top-down, as shown in the photo.
